Paul Courteault
Historian, archaeologist and professor of letters, Paul Courteault (1867-1950) was the first curator of the Musée d’Art Ancien (Museum of Ancient Art). A lecturer in regional history at the University of Bordeaux, he was also in charge of the collections of the lapidarium, the Carrère and Frères-Bonie museums, and the city’s coins and medals archive.
As president of the Bordeaux National Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts from 1912 to 1948, he shared his knowledge and expertise in no fewer than 430 publications.
