Pope Pius VI Slipper
Last quarter of the XVIIIth century
In the political turmoil of the end of his pontificate, Pope Pius VI is deposed and banished from Rome. The French Directoire forces him to leave for France. Priests and families welcome this old man, exhausted after crossing the Alps, just before his death in Valence. They have been thanked by the abandonment of some relics, like the papal slipper entered into the museum's collections with the De Pelleport-Burete legacy, in 1932.
