Boiseries du salon de Gascq
It seems as though it was made for the place and yet…
Actually, the ornate panelling originally belonged to another stately home, the hôtel de Gascq, rue du Serpolet, built in 1735, and was only reassembled in 1924 on the first floor of the hôtel de Lalande. Far from being a simple background for the museum pieces, the panels show the evolution of decorative art in Bordeaux, from the bright days where a President of Parliament could indulge in a rich and fashionable setting, to the dark hours of its dismantlement.
