From intimacy

Whether they belonged to anonymous people or descendants of the Bourbons, these costume accessories, letters, dance cards, toys, jewelry, and other small works offer us an incursion into the intimacy of the homes of the time: one imagines an elegant woman, sitting at her toilet, a little girl playing tea party and a young man choosing the pin he will prick in his silk tie. This daily life is marked by objects that are both a reflection of personal tastes and the means for expressing codes set by social groups in terms of fashion, manners, and behavior. It is at this boundary between what one is and what one must appear that the perimeter of intimacy is located at the time. In the sense understood in the 18th century, the most intimate object today would certainly be the mobile phone: It contains and protects by a password all the privacy of its owner, but at the same time it is the best way to voluntarily communicate some of this information, via applications or even accessories that allow you to personalize it.

On the occasion of this exhibition, one hundred fifty objects usually kept in reserves will be presented to the public. They will rub shoulders with works lent by the Musée d'Aquitaine and the Goupil Museum.
